Baseline and GHG Emission Reduction Potential – GIZ

portfolio cover image

Challenge

Identifying the "state of the art" in typical "Minha Casa Minha Vida" (MCMV) constructions, based on energy consumption and emissions, to simulate and evaluate performance across nine Brazilian cities.

Mitsidi Performance

Data collection (contacting construction companies, analyzing standards and energy consumption assumptions); Analysis of current and future building emissions.

Results

  • LPG consumption (cooking) is significant relative to total emissions;

  • Passive efficiency measures showed a 1/3 reduction potential for air conditioning;

  • Solar water heating reduced CO2 emissions from electricity, while photovoltaics (PV) showed the most significant potential.
